Portugal D9 Digital Nomad

The D9 visa is for professionals and freelancers working remotely for employers or clients outside Portugal. The difference between the D9 and the D7 is that the D7 is based on passive income, whilst the D9 is based on income from active employment. You do not need to relocate your business to Portugal; your income must be sourced from abroad.

Who is it for: Remote software developers, designers, consultants and marketers; those employed by an overseas employer or freelancers serving overseas clients. (For those wishing to live in Portugal on passive income, the D7 visa is a more suitable option.)

Terms and conditions:

Proof of regular income from abroad, an employment contract or contracts with freelance clients, a NIF, a Portuguese bank account, health insurance, a clean criminal record and a tenancy agreement are required.

Scope:

Obtaining a NIF, preparing income and contract documents, opening a Portuguese bank account, arranging a tenancy agreement, arranging health insurance, preparing the application dossier and coordinating the appointment process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Due to the double taxation agreement between Turkey and Portugal, there is no question of paying tax twice. In Portugal, if you have already paid tax in Turkey, you will only pay the difference.
